Mill7 does not force the user to block or close periods. This means that a new period can be entered without 'old' periods having to be closed. It is also possible to make entries in a new fiscal year (in all periods) while changes are still being made in the old fiscal year (in all periods).
Periods can be blocked and closed.
When you block or close until period 5, the periods 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be blocked or closed.
Blocking periods is NOT permanent, meaning that a blocked period can be unblocked again.
All journal entries and daybook pages of a closed or blocked period always remain retrievable (and can be printed). In contrast with the blocking of a period, the closing of a period is ALWAYS permanent.
If a period is closed or blocked, journal entries in the daybook pages of the period concerned cannot be changed.
New journal entries cannot be created (or inserted) and existing journal entries cannot be deleted.
Daybook pages cannot be created for these periods either.
When a daybook page is opened, the announcement 'Period has been closed/blocked' appears next to the title of the window. The last entry line will be red.
It may be sensible to block or close a period after, for example, filing the VAT return of a certain period.
This prevents 'accidental' entries being made in such a period.
